Getting Your Sweat on Can Help Your Mental State

We understand that for some people, more comprehensive treatment is required and working out isn’t necessarily a replacement for medication and therapy. Everybody is unique and will respond differently to exercise.

However, for people who have suffered with recurrent bouts of depression, anxiety, and elevated stress, a good workout might be just what the doctor ordered.

Among many other things, exercise has been shown to help regulate sleep, release “happy hormones”, and improve your bodies’ daily processes.

That’s all fine and dandy, but how do you get started when you’re so deep in a funk that you don’t see any way out?

Start small.

You don’t want to overwhelm yourself by biting off more than you can chew. When you’re first starting out, it’s easy to get daunted and wear yourself out. Instead, set mini-goals that you can easily accomplish, and once you check those off, aim higher. Marathon training can come later, okay?

Find an exercise that you love.

If the thought of pounding the pavement or HIIT makes you dread your workouts, then maybe that isn’t the sport for you. Find an exercise style that you can stick with… Like lifting weights! Studies show benefits from all forms of exercise… So then, what’s the best exercise for you? It’s the one that you’ll actually do, of course!

Schedule workouts around your peak hours.

If you’re not a morning person, then you’re probably going to hit snooze when your alarm goes off at 4 a.m. Conversely, if you come home feeling exhausted, then planning to work out in the evening might not be the best choice. Plan your workout for the time of day that you know you’ll stick to.

Another thing to keep in mind is that exercise can be a social activity, too. If you don’t think you can go at it alone and you need a workout buddy or accountability partner, enlist a friend, ask your spouse, or drop us a line here today. If you’re looking for the best personal trainers in the Hendersonville, NC area, look no further. We can work with you to help you reach your health and fitness goals and live your healthiest life — both physically and mentally!
